How do I know if I have a hidden water leak?
Watch for an unexplained rise in your water bill, damp patches or staining on walls and ceilings, a musty smell, or the sound of running water when everything is off. If your stopcock is closed and the meter still moves, there's a leak.
Why is my water pressure low throughout the house?
Could be a partially closed stopcock, corroded old pipework narrowing the bore, a pressure-reducing valve, or a supply issue affecting your street. We test to identify which before recommending anything.
Should old lead or steel pipes be replaced?
Lead supply pipework should be replaced — it's a genuine health concern and worth prioritising. Corroded galvanised steel restricts flow and discolours water. Both are common in older Glasgow tenements and period properties.
What is a water filter or inhibitor for?
An inhibitor protects the heating system from corrosion and limescale. A mains filter addresses water quality at the tap. Different purposes — we'll advise which is relevant to your situation rather than selling both by default.
Can you run new pipework for an extension?
Yes — hot and cold supply runs, waste, and heating pipework for extensions, loft conversions and garage conversions. Easiest before plastering, so bring us in during the build rather than afterwards.
Why does my water run brown or discoloured?
Often disturbed sediment after works in the street, which clears within a short time. If it persists, it points to corroding pipework inside the property and should be investigated.
Do pipes need lagging in Scotland?
Yes — particularly in lofts, garages and anywhere unheated. A burst from a frozen pipe causes far more damage and expense than the insulation would have cost. It's one of the cheapest preventative jobs there is.
What do I do if a pipe bursts?
Turn off the stopcock immediately, open the cold taps to drain the system down, and switch off the heating. If water is anywhere near electrics, turn off the consumer unit and don't touch anything wet. Then call us.
How long does repiping take?
It depends entirely on scale and access. A single run might be a few hours; repiping a whole property is a multi-day job. We'll give a realistic timescale after seeing it — not an optimistic one to win the work.
Can you find a leak without pulling up my floor?
Often, yes. Pressure testing and isolating sections narrows the location considerably before anything is lifted. We aim to open up the smallest area necessary rather than exploring hopefully.
