Question 1

What causes most blocked drains?

Accepted Answer

Kitchen drains block from fat and grease cooling and solidifying. Bathroom drains block from hair and soap. Outside drains block from leaves, silt and sometimes root ingress. Wet wipes are a frequent culprit in toilets regardless of what the packet claims.

Question 2

Do you take card payment in Bellshill?

Accepted Answer

Yes — card or bank transfer, paid on completion unless we've agreed otherwise in writing beforehand. You'll have the itemised price before any work starts, so there are no surprises when it comes to settling up in Bellshill.

Question 3

Are chemical drain cleaners a good idea?

Accepted Answer

Used sparingly on a minor blockage, they can help. Used repeatedly they damage older pipework and simply mask a recurring problem. If you're reaching for them regularly, something structural needs investigating.

Question 4

Can you service a boiler in a rented flat in Bellshill?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it's very common in Bellshill. We can liaise directly with your tenant to arrange access — just give us their contact details when booking. You get the certificate and the invoice; they get a straightforward appointment without you having to relay messages. Handy if you live away from North Lanarkshire.

Question 5

How quickly can you clear a blockage?

Accepted Answer

Most blockages are cleared within the visit. We also look at why it happened — a recurring pattern, a collapsed section or root ingress — so you're not calling us back for the same thing every few months.

Question 6

How do I know your engineer is genuine?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the Gas Safe ID card — ours shows registration 930395 and the specific gas work each engineer is qualified for. You can verify it on the Gas Safe Register website in under a minute. We'd encourage that check with any engineer entering your Bellshill home, not just us.

Question 7

Who is responsible for the drain outside my property?

Accepted Answer

Broadly, private pipework within your boundary is yours, while shared sewers are typically Scottish Water's responsibility. The boundary isn't always obvious, so it's worth establishing before work starts. We'll tell you if we think it falls to them.

Question 8

My boiler is in the loft — is that a problem?

Accepted Answer

Not at all, though we do need safe access — a fixed ladder or a sound loft ladder, and ideally some boarding and lighting. Loft installations are common in parts of Bellshill, and pipes up there are also the most likely to freeze in winter, so ask us to check the lagging while we're up.

Question 9

Why does my drain smell even when it's flowing?

Accepted Answer

Usually a dried-out or damaged trap letting sewer gas back into the property, or a build-up coating the inside of the pipe. Both are fixable and neither needs you to live with the smell.

Question 10

Can you fix a boiler that another engineer has looked at?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it happens fairly often in Bellshill. We'll diagnose it from scratch rather than assuming the previous conclusion was right. If earlier work caused the problem we'll say so plainly, so you can take it up with whoever did it.
